Launch a Session on the Mobile Device

Create a project and verify that it appears on the mobile device. For information on how to create a project, see this post here: Create a Project

  1. Verify that the Bluetooth is activated on the mobile device. For troubleshooting, see Acquisition Tools
  2. Prepare all bands required for the session. One Band = One Participant
  3. Enter the Project Page by choosing the appropriate project from the project list.
  4. Verify that at least one participant is registered: Tap "Manage Participants" and enter the required information.
All participants for the session must be entered at this stage. Participants for subsequent sessions can be added before launching those sessions.
  1. Tap the "+" on the bottom right hand corner to arrive on the Pairing Page.
  2. Turn on the bands that will be used during this session by pushing on the 2 buttons simultaneously. They will appear on the screen as they are activated.
The blue LED on the band will blink 1 time per second to show it is ready for pairing.
  1. Tap "PAIR" to begin the pairing process.
  2. Ensure that the band will have enough battery to complete the session. The battery life of an Affect-tag A1 band is 24 hours.
  3. Tapping the vibration icon will cause the band to vibrate. This is a useful feature if pairing mulitple bands for a single session.
  4. Tap "Connect Participant" to select the participant that will wear the band during the session.
If the participant number you are searching for does not appear on the screen, resart the app and return to the beginning of this article.
The blue LED on the band will blink 1 time every 5 seconds to show that is has been paired.
  1. Calibrate each participant for the session.
A Calibration period is required to detect baseline levels of measured physiological signals at the beginning of each session. Eating, using lotion, drinking coffee, a change in weather can all affect measured signals so it is important to re-calibrate participants at the beginning of every session. Skipping the calibration session will yield less reliable results.

Best practices for a successful Calibration:
  1. Explain that the calibration consists of a relaxation phase, a calculation phase and another relaxation phase. The mobile device will automatically move from phase to phase.
  2. Ensure the volume of the mobile device is on
  3. Isolate the participant from others
  4. Do not allow the participant to use help during the calculation phase
  5. The Calibration for each participant must be done one at a time.
  1. Once all participants have been calibrated, tap "Launch Session" to begin recording.
