How do I associate media to a participant data set?
There are 2 ways to associate media to a participant's data set. Both options are accessible via the Debriefing page for the specific project on the web application.
Start by uploading the media in the top section titled "Media Upload".
Using a Key Moment
- In the Media Association box, click the participant to which you would like to associate a media.
- Answer "YES" to the question "Is there a Key Moment that can be located in the media?".
- Choose the correct media to associate to the participant.

If there is no media listed in the drop down box, go back to section 1 and upload a media.
- Play the media until it matches one of the tagged Key Moments.
- Choose the corresponding Key Moment name in the drop down box.

The Key Moments in the drop down box appear in the order they appear in the data set.
- Choose "Apply for All" if the same media can be applied at the same Key Moment for all participants.
- Confirm by clicking "Associate this media".
Using the clock on the mobile device
In order to sync media with a participant data set using this method, a "movie clap" is necessary to properly align the streams.
To do this, the following steps must be followed during an Affect-tag RX recording session:
- Prepare and launch an Affect-tag RX session.
- You should see the data acquisition page with the Electrodermal and Heart Rate activities being monitored.
- Start the media recording (video or audio).
- Perform the "Movie Clap" using the running clock on the bottom of the mobile device screen.
- For VIDEO: record the running clock with the camera for at least 5 seconds ensuring the timer is clearly visible in the video
- For AUDIO: clearly state an upcoming time on the running clock (HH:MM:SS) and say "top" at the moment it arrives on the screen. For example, I launch my Affect-tag RX session and see that the current time is 11:27:34. I clearly state into the audio recorder "11 hours, 27 minutes and 40 seconds", and say "top" the moment 11:27:40 appears on the screen.
After the session is complete and uploaded to the web application:
- In the Media Association box, click the participant to which you would like to associate a media.
- Answer "NO" to the question "Is there a Key Moment that can be located in the media?".
- Answer "YES" to the question "Is the iPad clock visible in the video?".
- Choose the correct media to associate to the participant.
- Play the media
- For VIDEO: Play the media until the clock is visible.
- For AUDIO: Play the media until "top" is heard.

If there is no "Movie Clap" included in the media, you cannot associate the media using this method.
- Choose the date and time in the bottom box that matches with the date and time of the "Movie Clap". This can be entered manually or by using the calendar and clock tool accessible by clicking the calendar icon.
- Confirm by clicking "Associate this media".
