During a Session

During a Session

If there is media associated with this session, follow the protocol for synchronization. More information here: Creating a "Movie Clap" to align media with data

During a session there are multiple ways to monitor incoming data.

Raw Physiological Data

On the "BANDS" session screen, a square will appear for every participant in the session. The square will be a different color depending on the status of the particpant.
  1. Green: The participant has been calibrated and the band is connected to the mobile device
  2. Blue: The participant was not calibrated and the band is connected to the mobile device
  3. Red: The band battery is low
The raw values of Electrodermal Activity (microSiemens, µS) and Heart Rate (beats per min, bpm) are displayed for each participant.

Real-Time Affect-tag Emotional Indicators

The "RT" session screen displays the real-time values of the calculated Affect-tag Emotional Indicators: Emotional Power, Emotional Density, and Emotional Impact.
These values can be displayed for all active participants in the session. Switching between participants can be done on the right hand side.
If the Calibration was skipped, the real-time values will be less reliable.

Context Tagging

The "TAGS" session screen is where emotional context gets added to the physiological data. With each tag, a marker is placed in the data to notify the algorithms that a Key Moment occurred. This ensures delivery of results that are specific to those moments of interest.
During a session, open a Phase by tapping the name on the from the left. To close a Phase, tap on the name again.
Tag a Snap by tapping "Snap" and then choosing the corresponding Snap from the list.
Change between Experiences by tapping on the appropriate Experience name on the right hand column.
All Key Moments tagged on this screen will be applied to all participants for the session. For more information on types of Key Moments see What is the difference between a "Phase" and a "Snap"?
Phases and Snaps can overlap. The data will be analyzed for the time they have in common.
A Snap needs at least 10 seconds to be analyzed correctly.
If your session ends with a Snap, make sure there are at least 10 seconds from the time Snap was tagged to the moment End Session is tapped.

Spontaneous Tagging

Most Key Moments will be planned and programmed ahead of time, however, there is always a possibility that surprises happen in the field. Affect-tag RX allows for creation of new Phases and Snaps during fieldwork.
To create a spontaneous tag, tap the "+" button next to the timeline, enter the name of the Key Moment, and then tap the type of Key Moment you are creating.
A new Phase will be added to the list of Phases visible as a timeline. A new Snap will be added to the list visible after tapping "Snap".
In order for the new Key Moments to appear for the next session, the latest session data must be uploaded to the Cloud. Log in to your account and sync the data by tapping the Cloud icon for the project.
A Phase and a Snap may not have the same name.
A Standalone tag is a tag that can be used to add context but that is not analyzed. These can be used as place holders to be reviewed and edited during the Debriefing stage of the project. Standalone tag names are not saved in a list or included in future sessions. For example, "Door Slam" could be a Standalone tag. If the slamming of a door caused the participants to startle it may affect the results. You may choose to remove overlapping samples (open Phases or Snaps) for those participants from the analysis.
